The Record: Nelson Appointed New Chair of TAP

TROY>> City Planning Chair Barbara Lynne Nelson, an architect who works at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been appointed the new executive director of the Troy Architectural Program, Inc.

Nelson will replace retiring Joe Fama, TAP’s first and only executive director since it was founded in the 1980s.

“Joe has been a mentor and a dear friend of mine as long as I can remember. I will do my best to energize TAP’s work and to build on his legacy of service,” said Nelson in a statement.

Nelson has served 10 years each on the boards of Capital District Community Gardens (now Capital Roots), the Junior Museum (now CMOST), and the Troy Booster Club Inc., a parent organization for Troy middle school and high school. She is also currently active with Troy Alley Action and Transport Troy, a volunteer advocacy group for complete streets, and is the lead architect on the Breathing Lights public art project.
